Cartama Europe
Cartama Europe is a joint venture, between Colombian avocado grower Cartama and Fresca Group, that seeks to revolutionise the Hass avocado market in the UK and Europe with Colombian exports.
Traditionally, avocado growers for the European market are located in areas such as Spain, South Africa or Peru, where the harvests are restricted to very narrow windows of supply, creating seasonal quality challenges.
As one of the largest Hass Avocado growers in Colombia, Cartama has developed an incredible 11 month harvest period, which means the difficult supply periods, across the shoulder seasons, can be smoothed out.

Our joint venture with Cartama ensures a consistent quality offering is available for the customers we serve.
The Columbian soil is of volcanic origin, so is packed with nutrients. The fertile soil of the Colombian hillsides is free-draining, and the high altitude and climate means there’s no shortage of rainfall, so there is no need to irrigate or divert precious water resource away from where it should be.
Fresca has another joint venture with Cartama – our very own avocado farm – Fresquita Farm. 422 hectares of growing area in the mountains of Antioquia, Colombia.
Previously used for small-scale cattle farming, the land also has abundant natural water, and naturally fertile soil. We left all the woodland and rainforest areas intact, so we grow our avocados in harmony with the natural environment.
We also have a long season due to the local temperature, plenty of sunlight, abundance of rain and naturally fertile soil.
